6 at "Neri"

In this place 25/08/1944, while they were trying the escape was struck to death the partisan Giuseppe Poletti; had been captured in Rongio with Giovanni Poletti, for the signaling of a spia and it was led along this muletrack to the command of Molina to be asked. A simple tombstone made of dark stone, with a white cross, remembers his sacrifice for the freedom

7 At  Rongio

From this hamlet of Mandello different pathways start, which had been walked by the 89^th Brigade Poletti to go up the Grigne: at the Gardata, the seat of Colonel Pini, at the Elisa, at Versarico, at Era, in Rosalba and on the Grigna. At Rongio’s café, on the 25^th August 1944 Giuseppe and Giovanni Poletti were recognised and captured by the Germans. During their moving to Molina, in the “Neri” area, Giuseppe tried to escape, but he was hit dead; Giovanni was badly tortured at the German Commando and he was shot the same night against the cemetery walls at Mandello

8  footpath to Era:

It starts here the pathway that connect Somana to Era, where the partisan Brigade “The Hunters of the Grigne”, later became 89^th Brigade Poletti, had its seat from 1943 to 1945. The seats of the Command were Carizzoni’s house and the Era Hotel, the command by Lino Poletti. The nazifascists who in the rakings in the Grigne Mountains in Autumn ’44 burnt all the tool-booths at Era and also some Refuges on the Grigne area, walked on this pathway. During the Resistance  also the dispatch riders, who brought to the partisans information and supplies, walked up this pathway.

9 Monument inside the cemetery of Somana

This memorial has been built in memory of the fallen at Somana during the Resistance. The hig-relief made of white marble represents the partisan who faces up to the traps and the dangers, defeating the devil represented by the snake with a dog head and the crest of a dragon. Out of this important work it has been drawn out the symbol of the “route of memory”
